Father’s Day, June 17, is rapidly approaching. And yikes, you don’t have a gift for him yet. If your dad is already loaded with all the usual “dad stuff” like ties, socks, barbecue gear, and electronics gadgets, you may be wondering what to get him.
For a gift that keeps giving, how about some dental work for dad? He’d probably be thrilled to get a procedure he’s interested in but has been putting off. Or you can indulge his love of gadgets with a Bluetooth-enabled toothbrush.
Just in time for Father’s Day, our Rochester, MN dentists have a list of dental gift ideas. Call Lakeside Dentistry at 507-316-6444; we’re happy to work out payment and other details with you.
Dental Work for Dad
You can choose from several cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve your dad’s smile. Among them:
Teeth whitening Lots of things dad are fond of, like coffee, make teeth look dingy over time. You can get dad a teeth whitening treatment in our Rochester, MN office that will brighten his teeth several shades in about an hour. Or he might prefer professional-strength gel and custom-made whitening trays he can use at home.
Tooth bonding This treatment covers smile flaws like stains, chips, uneven edges, and small gaps in just one appointment.
Dental veneers They also conceal smile imperfections. More expensive than bonding, veneers resist staining and will last longer. We use two different kinds of veneers: porcelain or composite. One will be right for dad’s smile!
Dental aligners If your dad would like a straighter smile but doesn’t want to spend long months in metal braces, we can straighten his teeth with clear, BPA-free plastic aligners. The aligners are so inconspicuous, most people won’t realize he’s wearing them. And they can be removed when eating, so he can still enjoy all his favorite foods.
Restorative dentistry procedures are another dental gift idea. If your dad has a damaged tooth, one of our dentists can usually repair it with a dental crown. If he has a missing tooth, the choices to replace it include a dental bridge or a dental implant. We can arrange a consultation for him with one of our doctors.
Dental Emergency Kit
If you’ve got a dad who travels a lot, whether it’s for business meetings or camping trips, he’ll appreciate a dental emergency kit. Regular first-aid kits aren’t too helpful in a dental emergency, as they don’t usually contain items designed to help minimize dental damage. You can buy dental emergency kits online or you can make your own. Some items you’ll want to include:
- Gauze has multiple uses, such as applying medication and stopping bleeding.
- Saline solution works well for rinsing out blood or other substances. It can be purchased at most drugstores or grocery stores. Or make your own by combining salt and water.
- Ice packs are handy for numbing pain and reducing swelling.
- Dental wax is used to avoid irritation from a chipped or even as a temporary tooth filling replacement. You can get it at many drugstores or on Amazon.
- Save-a-Tooth system. This product extends the amount of time you have to get a knocked-out tooth to your dentist, where it can hopefully be re-implanted. You can find it at some drugstores or on Amazon.
- Topical pain reliever. To numb a painful tooth, we suggest clove oil, Orajel or Anbesol.
- Pain medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen will also reduce discomfort.
Cool Bluetooth Toothbrush
If your dad likes gadgets and clean teeth, he might appreciate a Bluetooth-enabled toothbrush. A popular model that sells on Amazon for under $100 is one from the Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries. It lets dad connect his brush to his smartphone to hopefully improve his brushing habits. He can also use different settings to brush his teeth, such as ones for added gum stimulation or enhanced whitening. And the brush has a sensor that lights up if he brushes too hard.
Funny or Cool Toothbrush Holder
Is your dad appreciative of gifts like socks with whimsical patterns or funny ties? Then maybe he’d like a fun toothbrush holder to brighten up his brushing. This list has some good ones, including one that looks like a robot, some that also include storage for a razor, and one that comes with a toothpaste dispenser.
