It’s August, so summer is drawing to a close and school will start before you know it. If you’ve got kids, your life is about to get a lot busier. At the beginning of the school year, the family calendar tends to fill fast with your children’s activities.
Now is a good time to schedule your family dental care. Our dentists are happy to help you get caught up on dental cleanings and other routine care before school starts. When you find yourself packing kids into your vehicle and staggering drop-off times, you’ll be glad you did!
Call our Rochester, MN dental office today at 507-316-6444 to make appointments for your children – and yourself too. Unlike some general dentists, we offer Friday hours. We’re open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Let us know, and we’re happy to arrange our schedule to see your whole family in a single day.
Exams & Cleanings Are a Key Part of Family Dental Care
It’s tempting to put off dental exams and cleanings when schedules get busy, but don’t do it! We recommend visiting our Rochester, MN office every six months for these services.
Our team will clean the plaque and tartar from your children’s teeth. Even if your kids brush and floss regularly at home, they’re likely missing areas between the teeth and around their gums. Our dentists may also suggest applications of fluoride and/or dental sealants for additional protection against cavities.
If we find any cavities, we’ll use a filling to repair them. For cavities in visible areas, we often recommend tooth-colored composite fillings. They won’t show in your smile, so your kids won’t feel self-conscious about silver spots.
Our dentists will also ensure your child’s teeth are developing as they should. If they see any alignment issues that should be addressed, they may recommend orthodontic treatment. Depending on the nature of their dental issues, we may be able to treat them in our office with clear plastic aligners. Unlike metal braces, your kids won’t have to worry about food getting stuck in them because they can remove the aligners for meals.
Get a Custom Mouthguard for Athletes
If your kids are involved in sports, get them fitted for a custom-made athletic mouthguard. According to an article in the Journal of the American Dental Association,13-39 percent of all dental injuries are sports-related. The best way to prevent these injuries is with a mouthguard. If your kids play sports that involve running, physical contact, and/or balls that spend at least some time in the air, it’s a good idea to get them mouthguards.
You can get mouthguards at a sporting goods store, but they won’t protect your kids as well as a custom-made mouthguard. We take impressions of their teeth so the mouthguards will fit perfectly and be more comfortable. If mouthguards aren’t comfortable, they’ll probably spend more time in your kids’ gym bags than in their mouths!
Get Cosmetic Dentistry Before Classes Start
If you’ve got children in high school or college, you may want to talk to them about cosmetic dentistry before they go back to school. A stunning smile can boost their self-confidence, in both social and academic settings. That’s helpful whether they’re asking someone out on a date or making a big presentation in class.
Our cosmetic dental treatments include:
Dental veneers. You can cover flaws like chips, stains, or gaps with veneers.
Teeth whitening. We offer both treatments at our office or ones you can use at home.
Teeth contouring. Using a laser, our dentists can sculpt your teeth into a more pleasing shape.
Tooth bonding. We apply layers of composite to your teeth for this treatment. You get results similar to dental veneers. But unlike veneers, bonding can be done in a single visit.
Orthodontics. Straighten your teeth with BPA-free plastic aligners instead of metal wires and brackets.
