Family Dentistry

At Lakeside Dentistry, all three of dentists grew up here. They attended local schools and now so do their children.

We’ve provided family dentistry services in Rochester, MN and the surrounding areas for more than 30 years. So we’ve seen some of our patients grow up and begin bringing their own children to us for dental exams and other services.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

We want to see your child for their first visit around age 3. In fact, the American Dental Association recommends bringing your children to the dentist within six months of getting their first teeth.

As parents ourselves, our experienced team knows how to make your kids – and you – comfortable during visits to our Rochester, MN dentist office. We take time with them, giving rides in our patient chair and letting them help us count their teeth. We take time with you, too, because we know you’ll have questions about your children’s dental health.

Teething and Thumb Sucking

We get lots of questions about teething and thumb sucking. Both are temporary conditions, thank goodness! But here are some tips for handling them:

  • Teething. Your baby’s teeth usually come in between 6 and 12 months. Your child will be irritable and drool more than usual. To ease teething discomfort, you can gently rub their gums with a clean finger, a moist gauze pad, or a small, cool spoon. Teething rings can help, too.
  • Thumb sucking. It’s not generally a problem until your child hits preschool, but we want to discourage thumb sucking if they still have the habit at age 5 or so. It can cause an overbite or issues with speech. We like methods that use positive reinforcement, such as a sticker chart with rewards.

We also like teaching your kids about preventive dental care as they get older. We have a cavity-free club for youngsters to keep them interested in brushing and flossing.

Patients of all ages, not just parents and young children, appreciate our convenient hours, patient team, and quality dental care. We offer comprehensive family dentistry services for the whole family, like:
