Root Canals

Root Canal: What It Is and Why You Need It

Tooth decay does not normally advance past the two outer layers of your teeth, the enamel, and dentin. That’s why it’s easy to find decay during your regular dental exams and stop it with a tooth filling.

But if decay gets into the pulpy material inside your tooth, it creates problems that can cause you to lose your tooth. It can even move to the bone that supports your tooth, causing a painful abscess.

Our trusted dentists, Dr. Lucy Meyer and Dr. Mei Li Hester can save your tooth with a root canal by:

  • Removing all of the infection from your tooth
  • Sterilizing your tooth’s roots and the canals found inside it
  • Sealing your tooth with either a filling or a dental crown to prevent future infection

The root canal process is a little like cleaning out a wound and then covering it with a sterile bandage.

We use local anesthesia to make sure you are comfortable during the procedure. And if you experience any dental anxiety, our experienced team can calm your nerves.

Root Canals Getting Less Complicated

Root canals have been getting less complicated in recent years, thanks to the use of dental technology like digital radiography, which makes it easier for us to get a clear picture of the inside of your teeth.
